Did you know that bullying is still a concern in UK schools and that many days are missed each year for fear of being bullied?
Helping to highlight the unacceptability of bullying, our own Student Anti-Bullying team launched Anti-Bullying Week here in school. In a series of assemblies with a powerful message, the team ask students to celebrate our many differences and to reflect on how we treat others. They encouraged us to be mindful how we speak to each other and treat others – not just as individuals, but also between friendship groups. Students were asked to pledge to treat each other with acceptance and kindness.
Supporting the work of the Student Anti-Bullying team, our Student Services teams have put together a programme of help and advice sessions each lunchtime with Resilience, Headspace and Self-Esteem workshops. Also included are an All Different, All Equal Mementos sale, a cake sale, a poetry competition, and a Friendship wall. Coming into school to join us will be Sophie from the online anti-bullying site Kooth, Katrina from Brook conducting an LGBT drop-in and Kayte Walsh who will lead a friendship workshop.
Thank you everyone for producing such a comprehensive and important programme – together we aim to beat the bullies, wherever and whenever we find them.
