Kathryn’s a knockout!

Kathryn’s a knockout!

School was abuzz with excitement this week when we welcomed top Young Adult author Kathryn Evans.

Do not be deceived by her appearance (she models her dress sense between book characters Mrs Pepperpot and Tess from Tess of the d’Urbervilles!) as Kathryn is a serious author and successful businesswoman. Her book More of Me was shortlisted for Wirral secondary schools’ 2017 Wirral Paperback of the Year.

Our Year 7, 8 and 9 students heard her personal and inspirational story, learning how she overcame many obstacles and setbacks in her early life, resiliently and tenaciously working to attain her goals. Her love of reading was an instrumental part in her success and students quickly learned that her enthusiasm for books was infectious.

Afterwards, four writing competition winners and six fund-raising bakers had lunch, provided by our Chartwells Dining Hall staff, with Kathryn before she was set to work signing fifty copies of her latest book!

Kathryn spent the afternoon session conducting a creative writing workshop with our Year 10 students.

Our thanks go to Kathryn and Authors Abroad for giving us such an inspiring day.

Here are just a few of the things our students said following her visit:

“I loved her confidence and thought she was an excellent role model.” – Year 9 student

I loved Kathryn’s presentation and hearing about her journey to becoming a successful author” – Year 8 student

“I loved the way Kathryn dressed and her love of reading!” – Year 9 student

“I currently write myself and it taught me to persevere!” – Year 8 student

“I persuaded my Mum to buy her book for me and Kathryn signed it for me too!” – Year 7 student
