Two Year 8 students joined ten Year 10 GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition students for a day on the farm when they travelled to Arley, Cheshire.
The focus for their day was on ‘Farm to Fork’, in which they looked at a range of the crops grown on the farm, and discussed organic farming methods and the impact these have upon the environment. As the photographs show, they met some of the young stock on the farm and toured the milking parlour. They also had the chance to get up close to the farm’s pigs, calves and goats, as well as feeding some of their ponies, rabbits and guinea pigs.
The trip gave students an opportunity to talk to the farm’s staff about selective breeding and how Stockley’s animals are used in the food chain. Thanks to Stockley and to organiser Mrs English, Teacher of Food Preparation and Nutrition for a really informative day.
