Being ‘Body Kind’

Our Mental Health Ambassadors joined School Counsellor Michelle Higgins to launch national Mental Health Awareness Week in school.

The theme this year is Body Image – how we think and feel about our bodies. It is an issue that can affect all of us at any age and our thoughts and feelings about our bodies can impact us throughout our lives. They can affect the way we feel about ourselves and our mental health and wellbeing. Having body image concerns is a relatively common experience and is not a mental health problem in and of itself; however, it can be a risk factor for mental health problems.

Following a session in which discussions followed a series of short videos in the LRB, Michelle and our ambassadors will be conducting workshops each lunchtime throughout the week – including Keeping Calm in the Garden, Sing Yourself Happy, Mindfulness in the Yard, Yoga, Origami and making Pledges to be Body Kind.

Thanks to Michelle and to Mrs Haynes in the LRB who has put a display of relevant books together for students to borrow. Our bodies and minds are wonderful things – we must do all we can to look after them!
