Students have enjoyed a series of masterclasses from an award-winning author and screenwriter.
Simon James Green, visited Prenton High School this week to deliver a series of creative writing workshops, which gave students a humorous insight into his writing career, directing experience and the inspirations behind his work. He also provided some valuable advice to students hoping to pursue careers in writing or performing arts.
Headteacher, Lisa Ayling said: “It was fantastic to welcome Simon to our school to deliver such animated , informative and engaging sessions. His visit created a real buzz among both students and staff and we thoroughly enjoyed having him here.”
Simon, who writes for young adults, also had lunch with a number of lucky students who won a school competition to write a short comedy story or poem. In addition to learning more about Simon and his creative process, they were presented with a signed, limited edition tote bag and bookmark from the author. They also took the opportunity to get a signed copy of his latest novel, Alex in Wonderland.
Commenting on his visit, Simon said: “It was an absolute pleasure to return to this wonderful school, meet such lovely and enthusiastic students and support their love of reading.”
Simon read Law at Cambridge, before becoming a trainee director at the King’s Head theatre, Islington, then went on to work on a range of West End shows and UK tours, including End of the Rainbow, Rocky Horror Show, West Side Story and Rent. His screen directing credits include Cubicle Two (official selection, Palm Springs Film Festival); and Hollyoaks (C4). Simon’s debut novel, Noah Can’t Even, was published in May 2017, with the sequel, Noah Could Never, in June 2018. The books were optioned for TV by Urban Myth Films and have also been published in Brazil, France and Poland. Simon’s short story, Penguins, appears in the Proud Book Anthology from Stripes, and his latest novel, Alex in Wonderland was published in June.
